How We See Patterns
You may want to look into visual and spatial skills we use to see patterns— what are they? How do they relate to patterns? Our team and others have conducted research on the shapes we see automatically, without visual priming. Several leading researchers agree that the patternABC is the first spatial alphabet.
When to Learn Patterns
Why learn spatial skills in preschool? We learn about motion and objects as babies, long before we learn language and numbers; it’s how we understand how the world works. You can examine the research conducted in Tanzania for UNICEF, specifically for SDG 4.6, which focused on the delivery of the preschool system. Research at U Delaware looked at what we can see from 4-5, and another study supports this.
Natural Patterns and Biomimicry
The patternABC was presented at NASA in 2018, put into the Periodic Table of Life Project (PeTaL) in 2019, and NASA edited a two-volume textbook on Biomimicry published in 2022. The pattern ABC was a full chapter in Volume 1, on Materials and Habitats, and is the first alphabet for nature and biomimicry.
